Wawa

On Monday we decided to visit an Indian reservation on Lake Superior. We drove all the way to the end of a gravel road to a place where Indians gather in a "Sweat Lodge". They heat up rocks to get the temperature to 105 degrees. We didn't see anyone there but the evidence of past use was evident everywhere.

On the way there we saw a fox. He looked kind of mangie...


On the way out to the island we saw bear tracks. Apparently bears go on the island as well. We were concerned that he may still be there.

The water was freezing!


The boys enjoyed rock climbing. We saw all kinds of lichens and carnivorous plants.

The rocks have a lot of iron in them and on the island you can see where the glaciers sheared off embedded granite and other conglomerates.

After going to the island Sue built a fire on the beach and we tried to warm up.

Guess who was waiting for us in the RV?

Tuesday we drove out to the badlands.

And found wildflowers and moose tracks.
